Describe what you want to do in plain language—the assistant selects the tools needed. You don’t need to type tool names or follow a technical sequence. The tool list below shows the actions available and what you can ask for. Before you begin, make sure Trainn MCP is enabled and connected to your assistant. For setup guidance, see [Connect Trainn MCP](https://help.trainn.co/categories/eCGRIB5MdtE-new-releases/Szlojlmuhl8-trainn-mcp/4VtkBh2fLkA-connect-trainn-mcp). > **You stay in control:** New Library items and courses start as drafts. Creating or editing content does not automatically publish it. Publishing, unpublishing, and deletion require your explicit request and confirmation. ## What you can do with Trainn MCP - Find training content and get answers grounded in your Library. - Upload recordings and PDFs, import supported file links, and write Library articles. - Create an unpublished course for a specific audience using your notes and existing content. - Add teaching content, quizzes, learner tasks, and an optional final assessment with certification. - Review and update existing courses, chapters, and lessons. ## How Library and Academy work together Your **Library** holds reusable videos, documents, articles, and guides. Your **Academy** organizes training into courses, chapters, and lessons. Each lesson has one main activity: a video, document, article, guide, embed, quiz, or task. A course can also include an optional final assessment and certificate. Library publishing and course publishing are separate. A Library item must be published before it can be attached to a course. Uploading a file to the Library does not automatically add it to a lesson. ## Explore the tools by what you want to do ### 1. Check your connection Confirm which Trainn workspace your assistant is connected to and what access you have approved. **Try asking:** “Show the Trainn workspace and permissions I’m connected to.” Action What it does Tool name Check your connection Shows the connected user, approved workspace, and permissions granted to the assistant. `who_am_i` ### 2. Find and understand Library content Find existing videos, articles, guides, and documents, then use their content to answer questions or plan training. **Try asking:** “Find our onboarding content and summarize the most useful resources.” Action What it does Tool name Search your Library Finds visible content relevant to your topic, including drafts and published items. `search_library_content` Read a Library item Reads available content and provides details to help the assistant summarize it or use it in training. Also provides a link to open the item in Trainn. `inspect_library_content` **Good to know:** Search helps discover content; the assistant reads relevant items before using them as sources. Search results are bounded and may not include every item in a large Library. Existing guides can be found and read, but MCP does not create or rewrite guide steps. ### 3. Add and manage Library content Add reusable resources to your Library, write articles, and manage existing items. **Try asking:** “Add these product PDFs to the Library as drafts.” **Or:** “Write a Library article explaining our onboarding process using these notes.” Action What it does Tool name Upload local files Opens Trainn’s uploader for MP4 videos or PDFs. You can select multiple files or a folder of files, which become separate Library drafts. `create_library_upload_session` Import file links Imports supported, publicly shared Google Drive MP4 or PDF file links as Library drafts. `import_library_content` Check upload progress Checks whether uploaded or imported Library files are ready, still processing, or need attention. `get_library_upload_status` Write or edit an article Creates or updates a Library article with formatted text, tables, links, and supported media embeds. Creating an article does not publish it. `upsert_library_article` Update item details Updates supported details for a video, guide, or document, such as its title or folder. Descriptions apply to videos and guides; download permissions apply to PDFs. `update_library_content` Delete a Library item Deletes a video, guide, document, or article after explicit confirmation. Items used elsewhere may need to be removed from those locations first. `delete_library_content` Publish a Library item Publishes a draft video, document, or article after your explicit request and confirmation. `publish_library_content` **Good to know:** - Use the in-chat Trainn uploader when available. Otherwise, use the secure upload-page link provided by the assistant. A chat attachment is not a Trainn upload. - For MP4 Library uploads or imports, choose **Keep original** or **Enhance with Trainn AI**. Enhancement rebuilds the video with Trainn narration, uses AI video quota, and takes longer. - Import individual Google Drive file links, not a folder URL. Never make a private file public unless you intend to share it. - Updating item details does not replace the uploaded file, edit video narration, or rewrite guide steps. ### 4. Create and manage courses Create a complete unpublished course, review it, and manage its settings and availability. **Try asking:** “Create an unpublished course for new support agents using our onboarding content.” **Or:** “Review the course and tell me what needs attention before publishing.” Action What it does Tool name Find your courses Lists Academy courses and helps find a course by title or status. `list_courses` Create a complete course draft Starts an unpublished course with planned chapters and lessons. The assistant adds supported lesson activities as it builds the course. `create_course_from_blueprint` Create an empty course Creates a course shell without chapters or lessons when you want to build it yourself or work step by step. `create_course_draft` Check course creation progress Checks progress while Trainn builds your initial course draft. `get_course_build_status` Finish the initial course build Ends the initial build without publishing. If your plans have changed, the assistant can continue from the current editable draft. `finish_course_build` Review your course Shows readiness information and a link to review and edit the course in Trainn. Published courses also have a learner preview link. `get_course_review` Read the current course Reads the current editable course, including changes made directly in Trainn, before planning further updates. `get_course_draft` Update course details and settings Updates course details, authors, and learner settings, or removes the current cover. Lesson content and structure are managed separately. `update_course_draft` Duplicate a course Starts a copy of an existing Academy course. `duplicate_course` Check copy progress Checks whether a course copy is complete and provides the new course when ready. `get_course_duplication_status` Publish a course Publishes the current draft after readiness checks and your explicit confirmation. Missing required content must be resolved first. `publish_course` Unpublish a course Removes the live learner version and creates an editable draft copy after your explicit confirmation. `unpublish_course` Delete a course Deletes a course and removes it from Academy use after your explicit confirmation. `delete_course` **Good to know:** A normal course request aims to build a useful, complete draft from the available sources. Ask for an “empty course” or a “step-by-step course” if you only want a shell. Creating, completing, or reviewing a draft does not publish it. ### 5. Organize chapters and lessons Shape your course outline and update how learners move through it. **Try asking:** “Add a troubleshooting chapter and move the billing lesson into it.” Action What it does Tool name Add or organize the outline Adds or updates chapters and lessons, or changes their order in an unpublished draft. `apply_course_structure` Update lesson details Changes a lesson’s title or description. `update_course_lesson` Move a lesson Moves a lesson within its chapter or into another chapter. `move_course_lesson` Delete a lesson Permanently removes a lesson from the draft after explicit confirmation. `delete_course_lesson` Delete a chapter Permanently removes a chapter and all its lessons from the draft after explicit confirmation. `delete_course_chapter` **Good to know:** Deleting a chapter also deletes its lessons. If you want to keep a lesson, move it to another chapter first. ### 6. Add lesson content and learning activities Build lessons with teaching content, knowledge checks, and practical tasks. **Try asking:** “Use our onboarding video in the first lesson, then add a separate quiz lesson to check understanding.” **Or:** “Add a practical task where learners apply the workflow taught in this chapter.” Action What it does Tool name Use existing Library content Adds a published Library video, document, article, or guide as a lesson’s main activity. `attach_lesson_content` Write lesson content Creates or updates an article or supported embedded content within a course. `upsert_lesson_content` Add a quiz Creates or updates a quiz as a lesson’s main activity, with questions grounded in available teaching content. `upsert_lesson_quiz` Add a learner task Creates or updates an application or reflection task as a lesson’s main activity. `upsert_lesson_task` Add a final assessment Creates or updates the course’s final assessment, passing requirements, and attempt policy. Certification is optional and requires setup. `upsert_course_assessment` Remove a lesson’s activity Removes the main activity while keeping the lesson, after explicit confirmation. `remove_lesson_content` Read lesson content Helps the assistant understand available lesson content before suggesting changes or writing questions. `get_lesson_content_insights` **Good to know:** - Each lesson has one main activity. To keep a video and add a quiz, use separate lessons. Replacing an existing activity requires confirmation. - Quiz and assessment questions should be based on readable teaching content. Lesson insights do not currently extract PDF body text; provide readable source text when needed. - A lesson quiz does not issue a certificate. If you want certification, explicitly request it and provide the certificate name and signing authority. ### 7. Upload lesson files Add a video or PDF directly to a specific lesson instead of uploading it to the reusable Library. **Try asking:** “Upload this PDF to the Getting Started lesson in our onboarding course.” Action What it does Tool name Upload a lesson file Opens Trainn’s uploader for an MP4 or PDF in a named lesson. `create_lesson_upload_session` Check lesson upload progress Checks whether a lesson upload or video processing is complete or needs attention. `get_lesson_upload_status` Import a lesson file link Imports an MP4 or PDF from a supported publicly shared link into an empty lesson. `import_lesson_content` **Good to know:** Name the course and lesson when uploading directly to a lesson. Otherwise, the assistant uses the Library uploader. Lesson uploads preserve your supplied file without Trainn AI enhancement. Use the Trainn uploader or its secure upload link, not a chat attachment. ### 8. Add a course cover Use a published Trainn video or upload an image as the course cover. **Try asking:** “Find a suitable Library video for the onboarding course cover.” **Or:** “Upload a cover image for the onboarding course.” Action What it does Tool name Use a cover video Sets a visible, published Trainn video as the course cover, replacing the current cover image. `set_course_cover_video` Upload a cover image Opens Trainn’s uploader for a JPEG or PNG cover image for a named course. `create_course_cover_upload_session` **Good to know:** Cover images must be at least 1440 × 780 pixels. Upload the image through Trainn’s cover uploader, not as a chat attachment. If you create an image using a separate design or image-generation tool, save it as a supported file before uploading. ## A simple course-building workflow 1. **Find sources:** Ask the assistant to find and read relevant Library content. 2. **Define the training:** Describe your audience, learning goals, and any source material you want to use. 3. **Create a draft:** Ask for an unpublished course with chapters, lessons, and appropriate learning activities. 4. **Review and refine:** Open the course in Trainn, check its content and readiness, and request any changes. 5. **Publish when ready:** Explicitly ask to publish and confirm the action. ## Availability and permissions Available tools depend on the access you approve, your Trainn role, and your workspace’s enabled features. Course tools require Academy to be enabled. Permission What it allows Browse Library content Find and read Library items and check their upload progress. Add Library content Upload or import Library resources, write articles, update supported item details, and publish or delete items with confirmation. View courses Find courses, read drafts, check progress, and review courses. Create and manage courses Create and edit courses and their learning activities, manage covers and settings, and publish, unpublish, or delete courses with confirmation. Some actions need more than one permission. For example, using Library content in a course requires both access to that content and permission to edit the course. Your Trainn role must also allow the requested action. ## Ready to try it? Start with a goal, not a tool name: > “Create an unpublished onboarding course for new support agents using our existing Library content. Include separate quiz lessons and a practical task, then show me what to review before publishing.” Your assistant will use the available tools, explain any missing access or source material, and keep publishing as a separate decision.
