Understanding Video Analytics

Video analytics in Trainn help you measure the effectiveness of your video training content and understand engagement patterns. You can track comprehensive data including video views, learner engagement metrics, and feedback to optimize your training programs.

Use video analytics when you need to:

  • Monitor whether learners are actively using your video content

  • Gather feedback on the effectiveness of your training materials

  • Measure the impact of video content on your overall training program

  • Identify top-performing videos and engagement trends

Video analytics in Trainn provide insights at two levels: workspace-wide dashboard analytics that show overall performance across all content, and individual video analytics that dive deep into specific video metrics.

Note: Analytics are updated every 24 hours. They are not real-time.

Difference between viewer and learner: You will see the words viewer and learner used interchangeably in this article, a viewer is anyone who watches a video in public mode. A learner is anyone who is registered as an internal viewer within your workspace.

Workspace Dashboard Analytics

Dashboard analytics provide a workspace-wide overview of all your video content performance.

Steps to access workspace analytics

  1. Log in to your Trainn interface

  2. Click Dashboard in the left navigation panel

  3. View the analytics snapshot that includes:

    • Total videos published

    • Top performing videos with highest view counts

    • Overall engagement trends displayed in chart format

    • Time-based performance data with customizable date ranges

Access Individual Video Analytics

Individual video analytics show detailed metrics for specific videos.

Steps:

  1. Navigate to your published video.

  2. Click Analytics

The analytics dashboard displays key metrics measured from the video publication date:

  • Total Views: Complete view count including repeat views from the same learner

  • Unique Views: Count of distinct viewers who watched the video

  • Likes & Dislikes: Viewer feedback ratings for the video content

Note: The above data is fixed, and reflects analytics from the day that the video was published.

Filter Analytics by Date Range

  1. Click the date settings option in the top section

  2. Select your desired date range using the calendar picker

  3. View updated metrics for the specified timeframe:

    • Video views for the selected period

    • Number of learners who watched during that time

    • Total engagement time

    • Average engagement time per user

    • Feedback Comments

    • Video Engagement

Feedback Comments

Viewers of your video (public or private) can leave comments on your videos. This feedback, combined with the "Was this video helpful" responses, helps you understand whether the video resources were valuable for viewers.

Note: Videos with a high dislike-to-like ratio should be flagged for review, and video content should be modified to better meet your learners' needs. Monitor video feedback regularly to understand how learners are responding to your training content.

Video Engagements

Video engagement data shows detailed learner interaction metrics regardless of how learners accessed the content.

The engagement tracking includes:

  • Which learners watched your videos

  • Individual learner progress percentages

  • Total engagement time per learner

  • Last engagement timestamp

Note: Analytics are captured through cookies and do not require learners to log in to the platform.

Access Learner-Specific Analytics

View comprehensive analytics for individual learners using either method:

Method 1: From Video Engagements

  1. Click on a learner's name under the video engagements section

This will take you to the individual learners analytics dashboard.

Method 2: From Learners Tab

  1. Click Learners in the navigation panel

  2. Select a learner from the table or use the search bar to find them

  3. View their complete engaged video data

Note: The Learners tab is available for Plus plan subscribers and above.

To track specific learners when sharing videos directly, use the Generate Tracking Links feature to create customized sharing URLs with enhanced analytics tracking.

Note: The learner tab is only accessible for plus plan and above.
